Breast reconstruction is a common procedure for women who have had a mastectomy (breast removal). The surgical procedure involves building a breast similar in appearance and form to a natural breast and there are two types of reconstruction - implant or flap - depending on how the breast is made. Breast reconstruction can help the healing process both physically and emotionally to restore some confidence in patients who have lost a breast due to cancer or another medical condition.
